Heating
The baseboard heaters are automatically controlled in 3 zones by the Nest thermostats.
Zone 1 - thermostat is in the kitchen hallway and controls the kitchen, dining room, living room, and entry.
Zone 2 - thermostat is in the Primary Bedroom and controls all upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms.
Zone 3 - thermostat is in the lower level game room and controls all of the downstairs.
Feel free to put ceiling fans on to more evenly distribute the heat.
Please turn Nest thermostats all the way down if using mini-splits for Air Conditioning.
Cooling
We want to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable, so here are some instructions on how to use the five mini-split HVAC units in our home:
Location: Our home is equipped with multiple mini-split HVAC units located in the 3 main floor bedrooms, the living room and the kitchen. Each unit has its own remote control for convenient operation.
Turning On/Off: To turn on the unit, locate the power button on the remote control and press it. The unit will start running and begin to regulate the temperature. To turn off the unit, simply press the power button again.
Mode Selection: The remote control offers several operating modes to suit your preferences. Look for the mode button, usually labeled "Mode" or represented by icons. You can choose from the following modes:
Cool Mode: This mode is used for cooling the room. Press the mode button until you see the cooling icon (usually represented by a snowflake or a drop of water) on the remote control's display.
Heat Mode: If you need to warm up the room, select the heat mode. Press the mode button until the heating icon (often depicted by a sun or a flame) appears on the display.
Fan Mode: This mode circulates air in the room without heating or cooling it. Press the mode button until you see the fan icon on the display.
DO NOT USE Auto Mode in the 3 bedrooms (see Shared Condensers below): In this mode, the unit automatically adjusts between cooling and heating based on the desired temperature you set. Press the mode button until you see the auto icon on the display.
Temperature Adjustment: The remote control allows you to set your desired temperature. Look for the temperature up and down buttons, usually represented by an arrow pointing up and an arrow pointing down. Press the up arrow to increase the temperature and the down arrow to decrease it. The current temperature setting is typically displayed on the remote control's screen.
Fan Speed: You can also adjust the fan speed to control the airflow in the room. Look for the fan speed button, often labeled "Fan" or represented by icons. Press it to cycle through different fan speed options, such as low, medium, and high.
Directional Louvers: Some units have adjustable louvers that allow you to direct the airflow. Look for the louver control button or arrows on the remote control. Use it to change the direction of the air up or down, left or right, as needed.
Sleep Mode: If you prefer a quieter operation while sleeping, check if the remote control has a sleep mode. Activating this mode will adjust the temperature and fan speed to provide a comfortable environment for sleep.
Closing the Unit: When you check out or no longer need the HVAC unit, please turn it off using the power button on the remote control. Closing the unit helps conserve energy and maintain its longevity.
Shared Condensers: Please note that the 3 BEDROOM mini-split HVAC units in our home share a condenser, which means they need to be set to the SAME MODE to function properly. This ensures that the cooling or heating load is balanced among the units connected to the same condenser.
Syncing Modes: If you are using multiple mini-split HVAC units in different rooms, it's important to synchronize the modes of the units that share condensers. For example, if you set one unit to "Cool" mode, make sure the other units connected to the same condenser are also set to "Cool" mode or turn the other units OFF. This helps maintain optimal performance and prevents any imbalances in the system.
Adjusting Temperature and Fan Speed: You can still independently adjust the temperature and fan speed of each mini-split HVAC unit, even if they share condensers. The synchronization requirement only applies to the operating mode. So feel free to set the desired temperature and fan speed for each unit according to your comfort preferences.
